dun laoghaire pier pre 1964
Dun Laoghaire Pier pre 1964. We originally thought it was 1969, until Ken received the mail below.
Here's the Pier in early 2002...
"I grew up in Dun Laoghaire, where the harbour was my playground and the
bridge of the Sealink ferries were almost like classrooms. It came as no
surprise to my friends when I made a career in the ferry industry and,
having worked for Stena at D/L and then SeaCat at Dublin Port, in Dec 1999 I
joined Australian fast ferry builder Incat as Public Relations Officer.
My family joined me here in Tasmania in August 2000 and we have settled in
very well indeed. But you might imagine my delight when i stumbled across
your site!
If I may make one correction. On the palance site there is a shot of the
mailboat dated 1969. I'm afraid this shot would be pre-1964. We can tell
this as the ship is still wearing the old British Railways livery of buff
funnel and black hull which was replaced by the red funnel (with double
arrow logo) and blue hull of British Rail. This new livery was applied
during a major internal rebuild at Harland and Wolff in 1964."
